A Far Cry
The venerable Naumburg Orchestral Concerts series has moved indoors while its namesake Central Park band shell is under renovation, but there’s no mistaking the gust of fresh air any performance by A Far Cry provides. In its latest visit, the omnivorous Boston sans-conductor string orchestra presents the local première of Lembit Beecher’s evocative “Conference of the Birds.” The program also includes a noble concerto grosso by Georg Muffat, an arrangement of Caroline Shaw’s dreamy “Entr’acte,” and Tchaikovsky’s well-loved Serenade for Strings.— Steve SmithRead more at TheNewYorker.com
